Love, Compassion, and the Practice of Real Life. A Conversation with Khube Rinpoche
In this episode, I had the great honour of speaking with Khube Rinpoche about the living essence of universal love, compassion, and the challenges of embodying these qualities in daily life.
Our exchange began with Rinpoche’s profound explanation of universal love in Buddhism — a love that wishes happiness for all beings without seeking anything in return. He distinguished this from attachment, reminding us that happiness is interdependent; it arises through our connection with others. His words invited me to reflect on the subtle ways in which even our desire to help can be driven by ego, and how awareness of this tendency opens the door to a more selfless form of love.
From there, our conversation turned to compassion and wisdom in practice. Rinpoche beautifully expressed that compassion and wisdom are like two wings of the same bird — inseparable and mutually sustaining. True compassion sees the boundless worth of every being, yet wisdom allows us to discern when to act and when to withdraw, protecting the clarity of our own mind.
We also explored how spiritual practice can support peace amidst the noise of the world. Rinpoche spoke of the preciousness of human life and the importance of nurturing awareness through meditation and mindful living. He reminded me that peace is not the absence of challenge but the fruit of love and compassion lived sincerely. His advice to protect one’s mind by choosing the right environment and companions resonated deeply.
I left the conversation deeply moved — reminded that love and compassion are not distant ideals but living practices that can shape every word, every encounter, and every choice.
With heartfelt gratitude to Rinpoche for his clarity, warmth, and boundless kindness.
May this episode inspire you to meet life, and all beings within it, with tenderness and courage.
